Ledger Live Desktop is the desktop application designed for managing your Ledger hardware wallet and digital assets. It offers a secure, user-friendly interface to interact with various cryptocurrencies, install apps, and track your portfolio. Below is a comprehensive guide to help you set up and use Ledger Live Desktop effectively.
Step 1: Download Ledger Live Desktop
To get started, download Ledger Live Desktop from the official Ledger website at ledger.com/live. Choose the version compatible with your operating system:

Step 2: Install Ledger Live Desktop
Once the download is complete, follow these steps to install Ledger Live Desktop:
Windows: Double-click the installer file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
macOS: Open the downloaded .dmg
file, drag the Ledger Live icon to your Applications folder, and follow the setup prompts.
Linux: Follow the specific installation instructions provided on the Ledger website for your Linux distribution.
Step 1: Launch the Application
After installation, open Ledger Live Desktop. You will be prompted to either set up a new device or restore an existing wallet.
Step 2: Set Up or Restore Your Wallet
Set Up a New Device: If you’re setting up a new Ledger hardware wallet, follow the on-screen instructions to initialize the device. You’ll create a PIN code and record a 24-word recovery phrase during this process. Ensure you write down your recovery phrase and keep it in a secure location.
Restore an Existing Wallet: If you’re restoring an existing wallet, select the option to recover your wallet using the 24-word recovery phrase from a previous setup. Follow the prompts to restore access to your accounts.
Step 3: Create a Ledger Live Password
You will be asked to set up a password for Ledger Live Desktop. This password secures access to the application on your computer. Choose a strong, memorable password and follow the on-screen instructions to complete this setup.
1. Connect Your Ledger Device
Connect your Ledger hardware wallet to your computer using the provided USB cable. Ledger Live Desktop will automatically recognize the device and establish a connection.
2. Install Cryptocurrency Apps
To manage different cryptocurrencies, you need to install the corresponding apps on your Ledger device:
Open Ledger Live Desktop and navigate to the Manager tab.
Browse the list of available apps and install the ones you need (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).
Follow the prompts to complete the installation of these apps onto your Ledger device.
3. Add and Manage Accounts
Once the apps are installed, you can add and manage multiple cryptocurrency accounts:
Go to the Accounts tab in Ledger Live Desktop.
Click Add Account, select the cryptocurrency, and follow the instructions to create a new account.
Your accounts will appear in the Ledger Live Desktop dashboard, allowing you to track and manage your assets.
4. Send and Receive Cryptocurrencies
Ledger Live Desktop provides simple tools for sending and receiving cryptocurrencies:
To Send Funds: Go to the Send tab, select the account, enter the recipient’s address and the amount, and confirm the transaction on your Ledger device.
To Receive Funds: Navigate to the Receive tab, choose the account, and display the address. Verify the address on your Ledger device before sharing it with others.
